Revelation, a short story written by Flannery O’Connor, is mainly about a Older woman who goes into a health clinic waiting room a stuck up lady and then after a small scruffle leaves a changed lady who see things in a different way. The story itself starts off a little slow while an elderly lady looks around the waiting room she was in and begins to notice things wrong with people. As discussed in class, it does seem to make herself seem superior to all others the way she describes others in retrospect to herself. That is probably how the fight got started, possibly when she was arguing with the fat, acne faced, girl. When the book hits the grandma, she has a new aspect of life and begins to question why god made her white instead of something else. Honestly, I did not like the story because I got lost through almost the whole thing, which is why my reflection might not be correct.

Holiday Memory
While enjoying a weekend with the family, I began to have flashbacks of the first Christmas where the entire family was present. All twenty seven family members all present to enjoy the festivities and dinner that are known with the holiday. It was one of the most enjoyable times for everyone, not only because all the presents that you get but the quality time spent with them. Just when you thought it could not get any better, snow began to fall down from the sky and provided a perfect afternoon of sledding and snowboarding (snowboarding happened after dinner). There was nothing better than snow and family.

No Power! What to do?
Looking through the creative writing prompt website, I noticed one that said “Electricity is a recent discovery; describe a couple things that one might do without power.” Well the first thing that comes to mind would be to go to sleep until the power does come on. Without TV or light there is really nothing out there to do. Second, the people I am with will all go out back and create a bon fire. We will all just gather around and congregate talking about current events that are happening around us. Also, I might listen to an ipod, at least until the battery life dies. And if all came down, I would light a candle and read, as much as I hate to admit it. That is what I would do if the power went out.

The Clock Winked!
Another idea derived from the creative prompts is to start a story off with the saying “The Clocked Winked.” So here it goes. The clock winked as if it was trying to provoke me. Each minute slowly ticking by as you are strapped down to a chair not knowing where you are. Five minutes later, the door slides open and you are face to face with a masked stranger holding torture devices. Thoughts are racing through your mind as the stranger inches nearer. Frantically moving trying to get loose, the stranger stands over you and thrust the chair downward with a force that rattles the floor boards. He whispers something to you, “How would you like to die?” You begin to cry and are so scared you cannot come up with an answer. Next thing you know, the closet door flies open and out jumps you friend and a video camera laughing hysterically. “I hoped you learned your lesson for that time that you scared me!” He states. Next thing you know, you are having breakfast and restraining yourself from strangling your friend.

What couldnt you live without?
Have you ever thought about the one thing in life you could never do without? I gave it a good thought over the weekend as my roommates and I traveled to Arkansas to cliff jump. I realized how hard it is to live without orange juice. I craved OJ so much I traveled almost thirty miles just to get some for one night. Then as I lied in the tent that night, I thought about the quantity that I consume and how some researchers say it keeps you from getting sick and I believe them now. I have not been sick in about a year and a half (knock on wood). I must go through at least three gallons a week! I just cannot get over that taste of fresh squeezed orange juice. But that would have to be the one thing I would want the most in this world.

The Worst Chore!
The worst thing to do around your house in my opinion is to mow the yard. Every weekend I travel a long distance of twenty to thirty minutes to visit my parents for the weekend. It never fails to be asked to aid with yard-work. And this is no little task; it takes up almost a whole day to complete this task. With a total of 17 acres, it is almost impossible not to complain. Who wants to sit out under the hot sun and move up and down a yard that seems never-ending? This in my mind seems to be the worst chore around a house. I think we will just leave out the weed-eating and leaf blowing that follows.

Work Excuses
Scanning over the creative writing ideas, I noticed one that stated write an excuse to not go to work today. This specific one caught the eye. As everyone knows the main excuse for not coming in to work ranges from my car broke down to I am sick. But if you are going to lie about an excuse to not go to work why not make one worth claiming, or even just state the truth. For example, If you have a hangover, just say that you are vomiting everywhere and don’t want to endanger the people and customers of your work environment. Thus saying you don’t actually have to say you had a hangover and were irresponsible and decided to get trashed knowing you had to wake up at five in the morning. So in the end, you can lie and then be looked down upon by management or just state the truth and be proclaimed in a way.

Creative Writing Prompts
Looking through the many creative prompts again, I found one that actually has happened to me before. The prompt was “Your in bar and a drunk man sits next to you, he starts confessing the truth, explain his conversation with you.” Well to start off when you are trashed, you will not know whether the people next to you are listening or not, and when they are it is the best time of the spectator’s night. Last year at Mardi Gras I was in a bar getting drinks for my friends and I. Waiting for the bartender to notice, a man sits next to me and starts crying saying how his life has gone down the drain. He confesses he used to be a millionaire oil company owner who had traveled to Tunica and lost it all. He constantly cried how he should not have gone to Tunica. After the repetition of the same story, I was so glad to see the bartender arrive with the drinks.

Mark Yakich
In class, we listened to the reading of the poem Green Zone New Orleans. The poem is read through nine different voices or point of views. Though some may think the poem sounds odd and not understandable but I think it is the affects of hurricane Katrina. It talks much about the different individual’s belief in God, abandonment of what they have known their entire lives, and some even enjoy their lives now. Opening the poem, it talks of someone leaving his house, talking to it as if it were alive. Further into the poem, there is a couple who pees over the side of a balcony on Bourbon Street. And multiples involve God in their reading of the poem. All this comes to play in a way that it shows how one thing (Hurricane Katrina) can change things.

Creative Writing Prompt
Sitting in my room, I was recommended a website for creative writing. One subject is to close your eyes and focus on something in the room, without opening them, describe the object. So I decided to give it a shot. I focused on the television mounted to the wall in front of my bed. On the television is the show House, with two motorcycle helmets hanging on hooks on the left side of it. The Xbox 360 sitting below on the shelf with two speakers equally placed on both sides of the shelf. The shelf atop four drawer dresser all neatly placed for clean lines. This prompt can be used for visionary details and details. Being able to explain vision in words commonly used in English to visualize what you’re reading and/or reciting.

The Glass Menagerie
The Glass Menagerie is told throught the memory of Tom. After the abandonment of their father, their family became a mess in itself. Tom is sort of the outsider of the family, always trying to find ways to get out. After quitting her typing class to focus on her music and glass menagerie collection, Mrs. Wingsfield wants Tom to find Laura a man. Tom goes out and finds Jim, an old highschool friend. As the story came to a close, Tom and Jim sit on the fire escape to talk about future plans, Jim wanting to be an executive while Tom wants to join the Merchant Marines to get out of the family area. He purposely does not pay the utility bill in order to join the seamens union.
Steelers VS Chargers
Sunday night the Pittsburgh Steelers played the San Diego Chargers and ending up winning by ten points. While substituting Rashard Mendenhall in for Willie Parker, he ended up with an incredible running game for the offensive line. Not only was the running game on point, but the passing game was not doing so horrible either. With the score 28-7, they went into the fourth quarter. Somehow, the Chargers got and incredible second wind, and stomped their way to a 21 point gain on the Steelers. Fumbles and interceptions aided them in accomplishing this. While Ben Roethlisberger did do a decent job, he could have done better. With 54 seconds remaining, the kicker Reed point the game out of reach for the San Diego Chargers. The final score ended up being a 38-27 victory for the Steelers.
StreetCar named Desire.
Saturday night I had gone to see the play “A Streetcar Named Desire,” the play itself was pretty good. Although the play was lengthy, the actors were very loud which made it a mistake to sit near the front. They would scream out of nowhere and Make you jump a little. The main characters Blanche, Stella, and Stanley all were on the same boat. By that I mean, Blanche had visited in search of a home to say. Losing her job as a wealthy teacher she now became a lower class citizen. Stella and Stanley were already lower class and they were not opposed to that. While in New Orleans Blanche ends up meeting a guy named Mitchell and begin to talk and date. As a result, the play was good, but personally I don’t think it was worth twenty dollars.
